In the Union Budget 2023-24, the government has allocated a substantial Rs. 89,155 crore (US$ 10.76 billion) to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), according to IBEF. This move is poised to propel the healthcare sector’s growth by a projected six percent, driving its value to $3.5 trillion by the end of 2023.

Amidst the ongoing global pandemic, the significance of a resilient healthcare industry has captured widespread attention. The demand for a proficient healthcare workforce has surged to unprecedented levels, with projections indicating the creation of over 1,00,000 new jobs. This transformative growth is poised to benefit sectors like pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health insurance and catalyse the demand for a skilled workforce in the healthcare sector.

In this article, we delve into the world of skill development and employment opportunities within the home healthcare sector, shedding light on its pivotal role in addressing the immediate crisis and contributing to long-term sustainable growth.

“Caregiving is a significant part of Portea’s service offering. Caregivers are well-trained in medical aspects, empathy and compassion, as they are expected to work closely with patients and their families. Training in caregiving is vital to ensure that patients receive the support they need, from a medical and personal perspective,” Mr. Vaibhav Tiwari, Co-Founder and CEO, Portea.

“Greater investment in care services can create an additional 300 million jobs globally, many of which will be for women. In turn, this will help increase female labour force participation and advance Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 (which is to ‘promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all’).” source: International Labour Organization (ILO)
