Swiggy to onboard 36,000 street vendors as part of the PM SVANidhi scheme: Swiggy is going to expand its Street Food Vendors programme that will benefit 36,000 people in 125 tier 2 and 3 cities in the first phase. In partnership with the PM SVANidhi scheme, Swiggy has created a team to explore and identify popular street vendors on the platform.

UNESCO launches 2020 State of the Education Report for India: Vocational Education First: UNESCO, New Delhi, has launched the ‘State of the Education Report for India 2020: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)’ with over 400 attendees including representatives from the government, civil society, academia, partners and youth being present in the virtual event. 29 million people to be skilled in cloud computing by Amazon: The cloud arm of Amazon AWS is going to help 29 million people globally grow their technical skills with free cloud computing skills training by 2025. The training ranges from self-paced online courses to intensive upskilling programmes that can lead to new jobs in the technology industry.

Avinash Taur from India honoured at Volkswagen Group’s global ‘Best Apprentice Award 2020’: Mr Avinash Taur from India was conferred with the certificate of Best Apprentice 2020 in Mechatronics from India at the 20th edition of the annual event. The Volkswagen Group presented its ‘Best Apprentice Award 2020’ to honour its best apprentices from all over the world.

ASSOCHAM TEDP program to handpick 350 tribal artisans: ASSOCHAM in association with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has started their TEDP program. The program will identify 350 tribal artisans and help them expand their enterprise before 31st December 2020.

First Skill Development plan under HAL-IISC skill development centre: The first training program under HAL-IICS Skill Development Centre was formally launched at Challakere, Chitradurga – a workshop on IoT and Embedded Applications. The Centre’s activities will start with five courses planned to be offered in the first cohort in the virtual mode during December 2020 to February 2021.

SAKSHAM-A skill development initiative by Hyundai: Hyundai Motors India Foundation has launched its skill development initiative SAKSHAM which aims to provide employment opportunities to approximately 290 people in phase one. To cater to the shortage of skilled manpower, the initiative will be first carried out in the healthcare sector creating more livelihood opportunities for the unemployed youth.

T-Series Educational Initiatives GKFTII: GKFTII have started running programs in Journalism and Mass Communication and Fashion Design under the aegis of two schools, GKJMII – School of Media & Journalism and GKFTII-SOFD – School of Fashion & Design. Programs at GKFTII are in line with T-Series’ tradition of bringing the world close together and evolving to meet the changing needs of students.

Simplilearn upskills more than 50,000 corporate learners in the last six months: Simplilearn has upskilled more than 50,000 corporate learners in the last six months across 12 countries. It sees a surge in B2B enrollments.

UGC asks universities to promote apprenticeship, internship embedded degree programs: The University Grants Commission (UGC) asked universities to promote apprenticeship, internship embedded degree programs. The competencies demanded by the industry need to be embedded in our university curriculum so that the employment-employability gap is overcome. 

Government to start 1000 Khelo India centres to help retired sports persons: The government of India is going to start 1000 Khelo India small centres across the country to help retired sports persons get employment.

Skill development news from the states

Assam

AISECT collaborates with ASDM to provide employment through skill training: AISECT has collaborated with ASDM to provide employment through skill training and placement. The training will be conducted across the IT/ITeS sector in Bokakhat for the job role of Domestic Data Entry Operator.

Jharkhand

JSDMS to provide training at ITI institutes, skill development centres: JSDMS will provide technical education training in ITI institutes and skill development for which preparations have started. In the meeting in- depth discussion was conducted on the operation of technical education as per the government syllabus of ITI institutes. 

Free skill development program to empower women: Central Coalfields Ltd. has launched a free skill development program in tailoring for women in Jharkhand. CCL will train 20 women in tailoring for two months under the initiative.

Meghalaya

Inauguration of Telemedicine Centre at Shillong: A Telemedicine centre was inaugurated at RK Mission Hospital. It is an initiative under the POWERGRID CSR Scheme and will provide the facilities for medical consultation initially in collaboration with NE Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Shillong.

Mizoram

Livelihood Generation for Returned Migrant Workers project by Mizoram government: The government of Mizoram has launched Livelihood Generation for Returned Migrant Workers project to assist the migrant workers find suitable employment. The project funded by the North East Council will cover more than 2,600 people, who will be given skill-based training and entrepreneurship development training.
