Training courses at FTI
Along with ITI and ATI the FTI (Foreman Training Institute) is generating future electricians in India to meet the growing needs. In their Electrical lab when the trainees undergo training they are made fundamentally very strong, they are taught how to design and make power circuits with proper protection and safety. So after this they are able to perform well no matter where they go whether in a manufacturing unit or a power plant etc.
Skills Competition
It is a competition about godown wiring. The participants in this competition are Prashanth, Noor Mohammed and Muni Raju. The wiring has to be done in a manner that when one bulb switches on the other automatically switches off. The duration for the competition is 1 hour 15 minutes.
- The first stage involves marking on electric board and is called a layout diagram. It’s a very important step that shows the path of the wiring and where the switches, sockets will be placed and how much casing and wire is required.
- The second stage involves preparation of accessories
- Making holes for capping and casing is the third stage

- The 2nd stage is accessories preparation.
- Making holes for Capping and casing is the 3rd
You must have seen how Noor Mohammed and Muni Raju were working on the 2nd and 3rd stages simultaneously which initially gave them a lead over Prashanth.
- Every electrician should do correct markings on socket, so that there are no mistakes made while fixing the sockets and doing the capping and casing.
- During wiring the red wire is used for power, the green for earthing and black for neutral. In this competition as the requirement is only lighting a bulb so only the red and black wires are used.
- The output should also match the mentor skilling techniques.
The FTI joint director Arvindan is the judge and he tells us that based on factors like completing task on time, workmanship and quality of work, the winner is Prashanth Kumar and he gets a certificate and a book.
The main issue today with respect to power is the great demand and its deficit. In our country the primary sources of power generation mainly coal can be detrimental to nature and hydro has its own issues like big dams which can cause flooding etc. Hence the need for other better sources is high.
