Top 5 highlights in skill education in India

Invitations are now open in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, for new vocational training centers, accreditation renewals, and the establishment of additional units for the academic year 2024-2025, presenting an opportunity to collaborate with the Government of Tamil Nadu and other relevant stakeholders. The last date to apply is February 29th. Applications can be submitted at www.skilltraining.tn.gov.in.

  • Almost 2,000 engineering students enrolled as future skill experts to equip students and teachers with digital skills and lending their expertise to 6000 high schools across Andhra Pradesh.
  • NSDC and Ethnotech launched the Centre for Future Skills in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, aiming to provide high-quality skill training and enhance employability, aligning with NEP 2020.
  • The government of West Bengal has reserved 20 percent seats for women in technical institutes and training centres to train students in job-centric industrial trades.
  • Global representatives gathered for the ‘India Summit on Education Knowledge Exchange’ organized by the World Bank focusing on Skill India Digital and advancing educational initiatives with technology.

  • Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated NSTI campus for Women in Agartala and a girls’ hostel in Vadodara, Gujarat, marking a significant step towards empowering #NariShakti and fostering skill development for women.

TNSDC-EOI for Master Trainers and Master Assessor

Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) invites Expression of Interest (EOI) for Empanelment of Master Trainer and Master Assessor for Skill Development Training’s under TNSDC. Last date to apply is March 31st, 2024. Interested and eligible candidates shall submit their application by clicking on the link here.

Skill India Digital Accelerator Grant

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • The Assam State Government has announced the ULLAS New India Literacy 5-year program, a total of Rs. 16000 crores have been allocated to the education department to provide from desks to tech labs.
  • The UP government is installing 40-kilowatt solar power plants in 13 government ITIs, with each institute receiving ₹23.88 lakh for installation, implementation, and operation.
  • Over 3,100 youths from Jammu and Kashmir have enrolled for Skill India Digital program learning a wide range of skills from cyber security to beauty therapy, whereas female enrolment stands at 15.4% in 4 months.
  • Jammu and Kashmir receives a significant budget of Rs. 1665 crore under Samagra Shiksha for 2024-25, approved by the Project Approval Board.
  • LogiMAT India has partnered with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya to promote knowledge transfer, skill development, and innovation for creating one crore jobs in the sector by 2027.
  • BNP Paribas has partnered with Nasscom Foundation to train 300+ engineering women graduates through an employment-linked project, bridging the digital skill gap.
  • Under the Mukhyamantri Paryatan Kaushal Vikas program, 20k youths and folk artists to be trained and skilled in two years as tourist guides and proficient in the field of hospitality.

Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies

  • The US to invest $5B+ in semiconductor R&D, empowering NSTC to lead in next-gen technologies, supporting design, prototyping, and piloting.
  • IIT Madras has partnered with Jharkhand University to boost deep-tech disciplines, focusing on innovation, skill development, and start-up incubation.
  • NSDC has partnered with Reliance Foundation to create courses with future-ready skills for five lakh youths in fields like EdTech, cybersecurity, AI, environmental sustainability among others.
  • UiPath announce to train 500,000 Indians in AI and automation skills by 2027, partnering with ‘FutureSkills Prime’ to introduce new learning plans for business analysts and test automation professionals.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
